We are looking for a Principal Executive (International Programs) to manage humanitarian and development initiatives, and build and maintain strong relationships with CARE International Country Offices.

This role provides strategic leadership and overall coordination of international programs and partnerships, bringing strong direction, leadership and focus to a team of advisors and practitioners, working across complex and diverse contexts.  The Principal Executive (International Programs)  will manage key internal and external relationships with a focus on growing revenue and business opportunities.

As a part of our senior management team, this role will lead the fight against global poverty with a focus on building a stronger, more sustainable and more impactful CARE Australia. 

In this role you will:

  • Provide strategic leadership and with a focus on maximising impact of our humanitarian and development programs
  • Provide strong technical oversight of all critical portfolios areas. 
  • Lead exploration of new opportunities for program development and innovation across our region.
  • Champion advocacy efforts that advance our mission and ensure CARE Australia is a valued, credible and influential voice in areas of strategic interest. 
  • Ensure sustainability of our programs, in an environment of complex risk and compliance.
  • Build the capacity of implementing partners to deliver excellent results for CARE Australia.  

To be successful in the role you must have:

  • Masters in relevant fields or equivalent practical experience.  
  • Strong and proactive business development track record from traditional and non-traditional partners. Demonstrated innovation and entrepreneurial skill and an ability to work with ambiguity.
  • A commitment to organisational agility. Be a change champion, with curiosity and a willingness to challenge the status quo.
  • Strong experience and track record, in developing and implementing innovative international development / humanitarian programs that have demonstrable impact.
  • Significant experience working at a senior level in a developing country, including leading complex change and providing strong financial stewardship and value for money.
  • Demonstrated understanding of gender equality and inclusive development.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including media engagement and public speaking skills. 
  • Strong negotiation skills including the ability to work with a range of internal and external stakeholders
